#playwright What a necessary feature added - Test Generator of Playwright now can generate assertions. Playwright v1.40.0 New tools to generate assertions: "Assert visibility" tool generates expect(locator).toBeVisible(). "Assert value" tool generates expect(locator).toHaveValue(). "Assert text" tool generates expect(locator).toContainText(). New APIs Option reason in page.close(), browserContext.close() and browser.close(). Close reason is reported for all operations interrupted by the closure. Option firefoxUserPrefs in browserType.launchPersistentContext(). Other Changes Methods download.path() and download.createReadStream() throw an error for failed and cancelled downloads. Out of morbid curiosity I installed Selenium IDE and gave it a test run as it's been over 8 years since I last tried it. The verdict? I would not suggest this tool to anyone, not even as a starting point. Over the past few weeks, I have dedicated a considerable amount of time to exploring Playwright. I've thoroughly read the official documentation, watched excellent training videos, and put the knowledge into practice. Based on my experience, I can confidently say that Playwright is currently one of the best test automation tools available in the open-source category. In my opinion, it is the perfect choice for testing single-page applications like Angular, React, and similar technologies. Here is the video where I cover all the essential features of Playwright. Soon, I will be posting another video focusing on Playwright configuration and the Page Object Model. I want to give a big shout-out to Koushik Chatterjee for his extraordinary youtube content, as I wouldn't have been able to learn so much playwright in such a short period without his help. Why do I prefer Playwright over Cypress? Both tools are powerful however after working with them for some time I've found some limitations with Cypress that I want to highlight. 1. Parallel test execution: It is free in Playwright while you will need to purchase a dashboard service or use 3rd party plugin. 2. In Playwright parallel test execution happens within the spec file while in Cypress parallel execution happens by spec file, in other words, more tests can be executed parallelly in Playwright. 3. This one is huge, Playwright can handle multiple tabs in a test while Cypress can not. 4. Playwright supports xpath while Cypress does not (need to download 3rd party plugin to use it) There could be limitations in Playwright too but thus far I have not come across them, I think Playwright is the future of testing and I wouldn't be surprised if it takes over. #testautomation #playwright #qaengineer
